The Brief: Design an outstanding modern nursery in one of the city’s parks.
The Challenge: To break the mould of the neighbouring buildings’ architecture.
The Project: The city council were looking for submissions for a pre-school nursery, located in one of the city’s parks. As the building would be surrounded by trees and nature, we wanted to keep the same theme in the school building drawing plan. We looked towards Fibonacci’s spiral, often considered to be nature’s expression of perfection, which is found naturally on shells and flowers. We liked the idea of a spiral building in an area brimming with straight lines and terrace houses because it symbolises a creative space where kids can be as inquisitive as they like.
The school building drawing plan consisted of nine connected circular buildings forming a spiral, with trees circling it. Each building had a specific purpose, from classrooms to a play area and a library.
The result was a school building drawing plan that broke the surrounding architectural rules yet reflected nature in an intriguing design.
