The Brief: Create a fun nursery building, designed with six-classrooms, a private garden and an indoor playing area.
The Challenge: Ensure the interior is completely secluded from street view.
The Project: MDNS Studio worked on the architectural nursery building, designing a new-build pre-school in Riyadh. Our main focus was creating a fun and safe environment, while designing an inner sanctuary for the children. In accordance with Saudi laws, the entire building had to be secluded, with no interior visibility from the street. We therefore created an inner garden which was the heart of the nursery building design, and from where the nursery is accessed.
Beyond the shaded garden, the building is split over two floors. We designed a giant horseshoe ramp to connect the two storeys, making it easy for the children to move levels. At the other end of the pre-school is a ‘vertical labyrinth’ with a safety net that allows the kids to go from one floor to the other via the gym. Combined with bright colours and spacious classrooms, the nursery building design is a place that emanates fun.
The result is a safe space for kids who love their nursery with its bright design and fun layout.
