The Brief: Transform a car mechanic’s garage into a two-storey office block with a flexible layout.
The Challenge: Retain the building’s 1950’s style while adhering to modern building regulations.
The Project: The office renovation was in a striking building where the original design had to be preserved. We divided the building into four offices, mimicking every single feature to match the original architecture. From the windows to the bars, the doors to the gate, the frames to the industrial beams in the ceiling; the office renovation was also a preservation project.
We had to respect modern-day environmental regulations, so we installed an exterior insulation and finishing system. This allowed us to extend the life of the building by providing thermal insulation to keep the structure warm and stable. Inside, to maximise the space, we raised the floors and added iron trusses into the ceiling.
The result is an office renovation that looks exactly like it did in its heyday, yet it has been modernised for office renting purposes.
