Pescheto Centre

Brescia, Italy

The Brief: Design plans to renovate a barn into a community centre for retired military personnel.

The Challenge: A low budget meant we had to be savvy with the materials and the structure in the community centre architecture plans.

The Project: An organisation belonging to the Alpine Troops known as ‘Alpini’, asked us to provide the community centre architecture plans for a building in Brescia. The old military personnel use the building to help people in need and organise local activities.

The building was a former barn and located in a public park, so we decided the architecture plans should focus on the property’s previous use. We preserved the brick walls, rebuilt the roof and curtain walls from brown aluminium and added two large windows to increase the light. Then we added a small meeting room made from bales of straw to the community centre architecture plans.

The result is a building that looks original, quirky, and remembers the past while bringing people together.
